The German Ultramarathon Foundation (DUV) was established on December 22nd, 1985 in Rodenbach in the Main-Kinzig-District by 22 pioneers of ultramarathon running.
Today, the DUV with its over 1,600 members, has become the world’s most important ultramarathon organising body.
We consider ourselves as representatives of the interests of ultramarathon runners as well as the expert organising body of ultra running in Germany. Our aim is to promote and to service ultramarathon running, that is, events going beyond the regular marathon distance, as is laid down in the charter of our foundation.
Werner Sonntag, who wrote the legendary book "Irgendwann musst Du nach Biel" ("one day, you got to go to Biel") known at least by hear-say by probably every ultrarunner, celebrated his 80th birthday in 2006. To honour this occasion, the DUV put together a commemorative booklet. It contains two short birthday wishes and other 20 Bielstories. Experience reports all around 100 km run which is called in general “ the night of the nights ”.
